The $10 Picture

While sitting on the curb snapping pictures the other night, this nice gentleman walked up to me and struck this pose. Having photographed him he fled, only to return minutes later with 10 Hong Kong dollars, and his a little piece of paper with his address. People are just very cheerful here and very friendly. Very photogenic as well.

two quick things:

1) in order to understand your blog going forward (i am hooked already), i can see it is going to be necessary to understand how hong kong $ convert to US$, something i could easily look up online but would rather ask you.

2) despite having met her in person, i have never actually seen mel's hair in real life and the photos of it are fabulous.

okay oops one more thing:
the international cell phone. i am in the market to buy one for my potential trip around the world next year and am fascinated by your "everywhere but in the states" comment. any guidance you can offer on this matter would be appreciated. searches of cNet.com don't seem to be turning up the info i need.

keep writing!

To convert HK$ to US$ just divide by 7.8 - it's that easy. I'll tell mel you like her hair, she just bought new shampoo.

*just* divide by 7.8, ha--that's like in israel where to convert shekels to US$ you *just* divide by 4.5 or 4.25 or 4.7 if there's a war or whatever. come on, silly--just say divide by eight. in jerusalem you take 1/4th of the shekel price and it becomes the dollar price and you just hope the magical people at Visa can figure it all out before sending you your bill each month.

and, what shampoo is it and does she recommend it? seriously. fabulous look. i am impressed.
